Smith Houses

Eight times in five years.
That is how many times we've moved!
This is a page to document all of our homes.
All of the "Smith Houses".

Our First Apartment

Our sad little living area

Tiny kitchen and dining area

Our Bedroom

Our Bathroom

The Hallway
And the first piece of furniture I ever assembled. I was so proud!

So as you can see, our first apartment wasn't quite the looker.
We only lived there for 3 months before moving to a larger, and newer apartment, that didn't smell like old cigarettes.

2.
Our Second Apartment

The Bedroom
It was fairly similar, except we finally had night-stands.

Our Living Room
Slightly larger than the last one. Also, our first Christmas together!

Our Kitchen
A little bigger, and a little better than the last.

Alexis's Nursery
Her first room of many! But this one had the most love and effort put in so far.
The "closet" is an old tv cabinet repainted, and re-purposed.

Ignore the people in this photo!
It's the best angle I have of our dining area.

Another area
We got the checkerboard-topped table from a garage-sale, and it's still a part of our home.

All around, this apartment was a little larger and a little nicer than our last one.
But still...meh.
We lived here for nearly a year before we moved into my mother's house to help her out with my younger sisters. (long story)

Our Third "Apartment"
Aka. The Basement of my mother's house.

Our Living Room
Sort of an odd angle, but you can see our sectional, and our bookcase behind it.

 Another angle

 Closer shot of the bookshelf.

 I loooooved that fireplace.
And that tv died shortly after these pictures were taken!
It was pretty old.

Here you can see our "dining" area.
Generally we ate upstairs with my family, but occasionally we would eat down here.

We had an odd layout, but it worked nicely for us.
That couch was mainly used as Lexi's changing area.

 Memo-board in the hallway.

 Alexis's second bedroom.
Her biggest so far!

 Her closet "playhouse".

 Hall shot.

 The bathroom

 Our bedroom

The desk we never did anything with and eventually donated.

 Another angle of our room.

Last shot

So you can see how our furnishings are amassing and how our homes are becoming more attractive each time we move.
We lived here for a little over a year before buying our first house.

Our First House

 The Dining Area
We used the actual dining area for our large bookcase, so this was sort of a last-minute spot.

 Said bookcase

 The Kitchen

 The (teeny tiny) Laundry Room

 Some Fall Decor

Alexis's Third Room

 Christmas! Loved that Wood-pellet Stove

 The Spare Room
Not guest room. I wouldn't make anyone sleep in here!

I won't show you our room because unfortunately I never got any good pictures.
So as you can see, our house wasn't nearly as nice as my mothers house. But it's what we could afford, and we loved it.
It was our own!
We ended up moving after only 8 months in our home because my husband decided to go to school to become an Air Traffic Controller. The school was 2 hours north, so we quickly rented out our house and found an apartment up there.

Our Fourth Apartment

 Our Living Room

 Our Dining Area

 Our Kitchen

Another Part of the Living Room

We liked this apartment, but we rented it originally planning to have our friend as our room-mate in the third bedroom, which never ended up panning out. So we only lived here about 3 or 4 months before moving to another building in our apartment complex.

6.
Our Fifth Apartment

We lived here for almost a year, but no pictures! It's very similar to our last apartment, same building and everything, so it feels unnecessary to post any pictures.

7. & 8.
Back At Moms!

We are here (currently) and have been for about 9 months. We were waiting for our apartment to be renovated, which took longer than expected. We count this as moves 7 and 8 because Cameron and I moved down separately a few months apart, so it literally was two completely different moves.

Our Sixth Apartment

We've been living here for almost a month now, and are 2 days away from having baby Talon! The apartment itself still isn't finished, trim around the windows isn't in in the kids room or our room, and it's a little buggy (we've had electrical issues), but on our end it's pretty much finished! A few things need to go up on the wall in  the living room, and we are hoping to redo our room sometime this year, but we are pretty much done for now. I'm SUPER excited with how it all turned out. I spent most of my nesting instincts from this pregnancy buying not only things for the nursery, but for the rest of the house too. I wanted everything to be aesthetically pleasing, yes, but also organized and functional. And luckily my stint as a Target cashier (I worked there about 7 months) left me with an employee discount that gave me a lot of leeway with the decorating!
Be forewarned, I am the worst photographer, especially with smart-phone camera's!
Without further ado:

The Kid's Room

I'm thinking I'll do an independent post about Talons crib later on. For now: Crib skirt, bumper, monster lovey, and taggy blanket: all from Etsy. Crib sheet and pillow: Target. Blue & gray quilt (under the pillow): made by a family friend.

Alexis's comforter set and heart pillow are from Target, the sheets are from JC Penny (the only place i could find orange sheets that weren't an arm and a leg, but yuck, jersey-knit fabric is no good), the cute owl on her nightstand is from Ross, and of course the poms are recycled from the baby shower and are from the pom+love Etsy shop.

The curtain, lamp, and shade are all Target. The banner is recycled from the baby shower. Talons baby book was made by me. The dresser was bought from a friend for $10, fixed up by Cameron, and distressed by myself. The toy box (you see the corner of it to the right) was mine as a little girl. Cameron spent an hour and 30 minutes pulling out old staples and replacing the hinges so we could de-upholster it and make it functional again.

Both Closets are nicely organized, but I think Talons may get re-arranged once he's here. Right now this is what makes sense, but I'm not sure about it's practicality once he's here. Also, he will be sleeping in a bassinet in our room for quite a while (we don't want Lexi to have to lose more sleep than is necessary), so things really might change.

Our Room.

It's always sort of dark in our room, Cameron likes it that way, so that's how it's been. We are hoping to redo the style and incorporate some color soon, but that probably won't happen until later in the year when we are more settled with the baby.

 The Living Room.

This is my favorite room in the apartment. I will probably do a post on just this room, the pieces, and staging the bookshelf (although it's not quite finished yet). You may notice there is a lot of blank space on the walls...we are working on that. :)

 The Kitchen/Dining Room.

In case you were wondering about the post-its, these pics were taken several days before we had our little boy, so I had labeled important drawers and cupboards for family and friend's benefit.
As you can see the kitchen is rather small and cramped, but really well updated, which makes up for it.

The Bathroom.

 The Laundry Area.

Lexi's artwork display.

As you can probably tell, we LOVE our new apartment. I am hoping that this is our last move for awhile, so I've poured a lot more into it this time than I have our last few homes.
The larger pieces have remained the same as our house, but the decor is pretty drastically different. (Thanks Target!)
We were also lucky this time around and got our tax return right before we moved in. This helped us to purchase a portable dishwasher, washing machine, and dryer (all second hand), and other functional and decorative pieces, like my blue table! I use it as a tv-stand, but that's not it's original design. I put a tension rod with a curtain on it in the back to hide cords, and it is my favorite piece in the house!
